Weather sealing is very important to me. If I had to do it over I would get the D200.
In your case I would suggest the D3.
For affordable film cameras check out a used F4, F100, or N90s. Nikon still makes the F6.

Nikon makes the F6 35 mm camera.
The Nikon D3 would be a good compliment to the F6 if you plan on shooting in both mediums
If you just want to get your feet wet in the digital arena, then I would suggest the Nikon D300. As a good general shooting lens, the 18-200 mm VR will get you started.

How much do you want to spend? It makes a HUGE difference in my answer.
How much previous experience do you have?

I would say that the NIkon D80 would be the best camera that you can start with, reason being, is very versatile, easy to use, decent when it comes to results and the price on it is right. I wonder who is not put in a “triple hole” by the D3
You can find the D80 with a 18-135 mm lens for about 1k on bhphotovideo.com

I have the D40x and I really like it.
If your willing to drop alot of money then you could go for something like the D300.
I think the D40x is great for a first DSLR.
I bought mine online along with some accessories for $1000.
I think the camera with the lens is about $800.
I don’t think Nikon makes film cameras, but I could be wrong.
My friend has a Canon Rebel that takes film. She got it like 2 years ago though, so I don’t know if they still make it.
